Research around the world

        Research around the world.
The Early Childhood Development Virtual University (ECDVU) is attractive to me to explore because the other sites are operated in advanced countries, and I will like to see what other countries especially Africa has to offer.  The site is being managed by the University of Victoria. It is an innovative and multifaceted approach to addressing ECD capacity building and leadership development in Africa.   The sites http://www.ecdvu.org/ssa/index.php

Childhood Development has gained international recognition and the field is being developed to improve the quality of life for children and their families.
I found out that a lot of researches are going on in different areas to find solution to the many issues of early childhood in Africa. This they do through seminars, discussions and teachings at all levels of training for teachers and those who work with children.  General areas of focus include curriculum development, childhood development and many countries like Tanzania, Kenya, and Nigeria are still looking at the issues of personnel development, role of culture and impact of play in early childhood. Basic survival issues are still being examined.  The research topics vary greatly from country to country, and I think it depends on their varied needs, nonetheless, it is noteworthy that a lot of positive efforts are being made by these countries to improve early childhood.

  2. Mercy,
I chose to look at this site as well and I am interested on your perspective on some of the articles posted - particularly regarding Nigeria. How much do you see in your work that is related to these issues?
I looked at the article regarding HIV/AIDS orphans, but it was published 8 years ago. Do you know if the situation has improved or if there have been any significant changes?
You bring up a good point about the reality of research - that regardless of where it is being done, it is generally focused on the specific issues of the region in hopes of influencing positive change.

  3. Mercy, It would be nice to see what the Virtual University has to offer. It is important to find a solution to the numerous early childhood issues Africa is faced with for the success of the children. It is also important that EC professionals understand the importance of play in child development. I have enjoyed reading your post.

  6. I think it is really wonderful that they reach out to teachers who have all different levels of experience. It's so important in terms of how we encourage other educators in increasing their skills and value in this field.
