I
chose to work on Parental Involvement in School Achievement. I am still not
sure on the subtopic that I will work but I am generally interested in knowing why
it is very difficult for parents to get involved or participate in the
classroom or school event of their children. Parents are very important to the educational
development of their children and research has confirmed that when parents are
involved, children respond better in school, cope well with challenges and less
troublesome.
Working through this is helping me to gain better
understanding of how research works and what determine quality in early childhood.
I am learning how to do research and the resources this week , and have been
focusing on something different...
Mercy, have you considered surveying parents in your program and surrounding area as to what barriers are keeping them from participating?
ReplyDeleteI agree that I am learning a great deal from this course - even in just two weeks!
Mercy, i agree that parent involvement is important for the children education. With having two parent or even one parent families needing to work two jobs or more to make it, it puts a lot of pressure on the parents to get involved with their children. Lack of supervision is i think an issue with children today.
ReplyDeleteI think there are a variety of reasons why parents seem to be "uninvolved" from our outside perspectives but I think that it's important to look at the challenges that parents face in becoming involved because sometimes it's not that they don't want to be but that the needs of the family have to be taken care of before the wants (so to speak).
